Last year I gave up sugar for a month and I was sooo proud of myself!!! Anyone that knows me, knows that it was a BIG deal.

I didn’t have any scales at the time, so I don’t not know if it made a difference there, but within a week or two people noticed my face was slimming down. Whaaat?!?

My favorite part of it all was that I honestly no longer wanted sugar, I didn’t have the ups and downs (munchies all day) and I was very content to eat healthy.

I found for me, it was easier than ‘trying to be good’ or allowing a cheat meal a week and depriving myself the rest of the time. Some people can do that…I guess it is the goal!

Sadly, as with most good things, it ended…I don’t know how, but it did. ? …and I’ve been like a kid in a candy store since then pretty much! ?

Soooo, I’ve been toying with the idea of doing it again.

But that means I need to do the first three days again!!!! Aaaargh!!!

They were like DEATH!!!! ?

All day, it’s all you can think about! It doesn’t matter how much you eat, it is never enough to stop your brain going crazy!!!

If you don’t believe me, try it!

So, I don’t ever rule out fruits when I cut out sugar, they are too good! What is life without fruit?! And once you are off and in the happy place, you find you don’t need as much fruit as in the beginning. ? ??????????

Anyway, getting to the point, when I’m going off sugar, I find I need something to replace that Ferrera Rocher, so I make these bliss balls.

They are very filling due to the nuts and oats and protein powder, and have sweetness from the dates, apricots and bananas ?, which almost hits the spot, and is just enough to tie me over to the happy place…

400g Almond Meal

120g Dates

80g Apricots

50g Coconut, Desiccated or shredded

100g Oats

90g Protein Powder

35g Cacao Powder

2tbs Chia Seeds

2 large Bananas

Blend all dry ingredients, (everything except coconut and banana), then add banana until sticky.


Roll into balls then roll through coconut.


Store in the freezer and thaw to your liking.


Note: these are healthy, but are not sugar free or low carb or anything like that. Just a great transitioning snack for me going slowly off sugar.

I also think they are great for the kids, and much better than sneaking something naughty from the cupboard!!
