Did you know, twins only take 9 months too cook? Not 18 lol.

Yes, I was seriously asked that…🤣

Being pregnant with twins is literally like having a 2 headed octopus in your stomach. Combined, we had 3 hearts, 6 eyes and 30 toes. Crazy right?

Below I’ve documented the twins pregnancy.

Hope you enjoy xxx

How I found out I was pregnant:

I felt nauseas one day, and simply thought I had a bug, when my SIL recommended I take a test. That night on the bathroom floor, Pete and I were in tears as we saw the double line that would change our lives. (Happy tears obviously! 😭)

As we were seeing a fertility specialist at the time, we found out very quickly that we were having twins, as our HCG levels were through the roof! He quickly rushed us in for an ultrasound at 6 weeks to see what was going on…

Seeing the two little footprints (that’s what they looked like to me at 6 weeks) and the two flickering heart beats was insane! We were very excited, and I swore to the doctor that I didn’t overdose on my fertility medication, to which he replied, ‘I was going to ask you that.’

Eeeeek!

Food Cravings:

  • Avocado on Toast, Big time! It is sooooo good and at least it is a healthy snack. And great for the twins brains! I remember going with Pete to Woolworths to get avocados and they weren’t ripe. I was devastated to say the least! We then drove to Coles….and again they were unripe! At this point I broke down crying, sobbing even. How could they do this to me?! Pete patted my back and suggested ALDI. You guessed it. Their avocados were hard, cold and wouldn’t be ready for days! Needless to say, after that experience, we kept a regular stock!
  • Cup-a-Noodles (perhaps I needed more salt in my diet?)
  • Service station pies. No, not from the bakery, not frozen. Only from a service station. Yeah gross I know… I have not idea about this one and no excuse except that pregnant women aren’t logical. I remember driving from service station to service station in search of a pie. They were all sold out. Again with the tears. Public waterworks were a no-biggy by now…

Best Part of the First Trimester:

Telling our family and friends I was pregnant, and then being able to tell them that we were expecting twins a few weeks later! It was like double the joy, and double the experience of seeing everyone’s excitement.

Worst Part of the First Trimester:

The morning sickness!!!

I vomited once or twice a day for at least the first 16 weeks, so that wasn’t overly pleasant… but not as bad as many women have it. So I really can’t complain too much!

Best Part of the Second Trimester:

Ahhh, the second trimester. I felt great, got my energy back and really started nesting before Bub arrived. It was wonderful!

Worst Part of the Second Trimester:

The fact that it literally lasted two weeks! After that, I was too big to class myself in that ‘happy second trimester state’. So the downfalls of a twin pregnancy is that you have an extremely short ‘second trimester’!

Best Part of the Third Trimester:

Having a big baby bump and feeling them both kick, Tori up in my ribs and Wally down near my bladder. It was incredible being able to feel which one was kicking and knowing it was the ‘girl one’ or the ‘boy one’. And then to feel them kick and respond to each other was pretty magical too!

Worst Part of the Third Trimester:

Going on bedrest at 32 weeks and having them early at 34 weeks was pretty scary. It was difficult being very big and unable to do a lot of things. (shoes for instance) And the Braxton hicks started very early and were quite intense for a good month or two. It felt like forever!

So, I guess my advice to any pregnant woman is ‘hang in there’. You literally can’t change anything…you are on a rollercoaster and you can’t get off, so make sure you enjoy the ride! I wish I documented it more at the time, instead of after the fact. Better late than never I guess.

Let me know if you had any weird food cravings, or no ‘second trimester’… I wonder if other twin mums feel this way?

Again, thanks for reading!

P.S. Sorry for the lame photos….We didn’t really take many bump shots (I know crazy), but that will definitely change for the next pregnancy! Promise!
